The BC Band is back in its new and improved home. The former SAM building, now known as the Edward Simonsen Performing Arts Center, has opened its doors to students for the fall of 2014. The space has not officially opened to the public, but there are plans for its big debut in the spring. In the mean time the students and faculty are getting settled in and enjoying the advantages of regular access to rehearsal and performance space. We hope you'll see the venue in person...it's truly amazing!
You can view some of the architectural sketches here: http://www.ibigroup.com/projects/bakersfield-college-performing-arts-modernization-1 If you're a current, recent, (or not so recent) Bakersfield College Renegade Band member, dust off that instrument and make plans to be at BC this weekend for the big 2013 Homecoming football game. Mr. Robby Martinez will be leading the group this Saturday, October 26th. Download your music RIGHT HERE and get in touch with Mr. Martinez at 661-395-4546 if you have any questions. We hope you'll all be a part of this Centennial Homecoming event! Go Gades! This Wednesday night at 7pm, come join the BC Concert Band in their new home for the semester. We're opening the doors to the Dance Room (Gym 202) for an "Open House" Fall Concert. The band will present a variety of works from Haydn to Holsinger. Admission is free, so make yourself at home this Wednesday night at Bakersfield College. Some very exciting things are coming soon. For now, everything is still under wraps...shrink wrap to be precise :) Stay tuned for details in the next few weeks.
If you are a music major at BC (or even considering becoming one) you should seriously consider taking the following course this summer beginning Monday, June 3: MUSC B2 - Basic Elements of Music 50438 3.0 units MTWTh 08:00am - 11:20am Bakersfield Main Campus FA 65 June 3-27 If you take this class, you will increase your understanding of how written music works, which will help you succeed in any future music course. Also, MUSC B2 is the pre-requisite for the music theory and ear-training series of courses that are required for the music major. These courses (MUSC B4A/B15A, MUSC B4B/B15B, and MUSC B4C/B15C) are each offered only once per year and must be taken in order. MUSC B4A/B15A are in the schedule this fall. If you miss the opportunity to take these courses then, you will have to wait another entire year before you can start the series, which takes 3 semesters to complete. Of course, if you are a music major and are already on track with the music theory sequence--good for you! Stick with it!
